This weeks lessons again focussed on the theory behind collective identity. We were set to read and review a piece of information titled 'Personal Homepages and the Construction of Identities on the Web'.
Our summary was to be posted on our blogs which has been done below, giving a summary of the piece itself so we knew whether we had taken a clear understanding or not.
We also looked at Moral panics, which were produced by Cohen to suggest how things in the media can be exaggerated and blown out of proportion. An example is that of 'Mods and Rockers', and Folk Devils focussed the groups of people that continued to make a disruption within society. Moral panics have elements of truth and can show a form of reality, although the exaggeration displays how they are not always as bad as they are presented in the media like newspapers and televisions. There have been many moral panics over the years including mods and rockers, peadophilia, drugs and alcohol and sexual promiscuity.

PRODUCTION WORK:
This week we continued filming again, using a range of locations being the school grounds itself, round both mine and Emma Smyth's houses and in nearby parks and fields to reflect the emotion within the song. We created our signs with the words 'Lonely' and 'Afraid' on separate pieces of paper for people to hold within our production music video. We also decided to use three separate people in our video holding 'I' 'AM' 'BEAUTIFUL', for a part of the video showing the chorus line. We thought about using unique people and people showing different features and different ethnic minorities to reflect how every person is beautiful and it's not what is shown on the outside that counts but the personalities inside. We wanted to use a girl with a desire to be skinny and looking at pictures of skinny models and trying to commit suicide. This will be an effective part of the film, as it shows how the stereotypes shown in the media don't always have a good effect on that of the public. We have also planned to use a gay couple, yet again presenting how people don't have to follow the norms of society to be happy and beautiful. Thirdly, we have planned to use just lips being shown miming the words to give more of an effect to our target audience who will be watching this pop video.
We know that this video will be watched by a large age range, as Christina Aguilera does appeal to many people within society, so we had to think about how we could reflect the meaning of the song which would make people think twice about judging one another. Looking 'normal' on the outside doesn't reflect how people are on the inside and their inner feelings, which is a significant part of the song.
