Lesson 9: 24-02-09

In this lesson we got into small groups of three or four, and produced brainstorms on different genres of music to help with our final task of creating a music magazine. We had to think about pop, hip hop/R'n'B, dance, rock and the different forms of these genres. In our group, we each assigned to a genre and produced four A3 mind maps with all the information about each genre and gave examples of current bands that would fall into these categories. We also thought about popular magazines that portray these bands in different ways, which helped us understand how different types of music are reflected in order to target their specific audiences.
This task helped me in the way that it showed us how different genres of music are presented to give off certain effects. The target audiences are attracted by using different ways of presenting the music, whether it be from the lyrics used or in different magazines that specialise in the certain music type.
